Every item is designed, prototyped and handmade in the Flax & Hide Studio and Workshop in North Yorkshire, using traditional methods solely by the Designer and Maker.

Only high quality leathers, waxed linen threads and quality fittings are used.

All products are made to order with a choice of veg tan leathers, linen threads, fittings and debossed personalisation.  All orders start by being hand cut from a large hide of leather. If an item is hand dyed it is prepared for the dye process by deglazing.  Oil based dye is applied and left to dry for at least 24 hours.  The leather is then conditioned with sealant containing waxes and oils to make the leather soft to the touch.  Many products are made using through dyed veg tan leather, these leathers come conditioned.  The cut sections are then tooled, holes punched for fittings such as rivets and poppers. The cut sections are then brass stamped debossed with the F&H logo and any personalisation of names, initials etc. Edges are bevelled, the item is glued together and then the edges are sanded and burnished. Fittings are attached and the item is sewn by hand using traditional saddle stitch for strength and durability. Once stitching is complete the stitches are then hammered, so they are no longer proud of the surface. The edges and surfaces are re-polished.  The item is checked and checked again... and again... and only then, wrapped and packaged.

How long will my order take?

​

Each product is handmade and therefore takes time. Production times are stated at the bottom of each product page.  Please note these are business days... and although I love what I do, I do need weekends off...  I always aim to make your order as soon as possible, but like all good things handmade items take time and care, so I need the time stated...

How long does delivery take, and how much will it cost?

​

I use Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide and Couriers for deliveries, so delivery times are dependant on whether it is a Domestic or International delivery.  All orders within the UK are considered Domestic. For more details and for International orders please refer to

Flax & Hide Policies page.  All UK orders are sent on a 24hr Tracked Royal Mail Service and generally take between 1-3 business days.  All International orders are sent tracked and costs are based on weight.

Customs Charges...

Custom charges are the responsibility of the buyer and are not included in the purchase price of the item or the shipping costs.  Please check with your country's Custom Charges before purchasing.  Charges are usually collected by the delivery company.

Can I change my order once placed?

Please get in touch quickly if you have made an error on your order and I will endeavour to accommodate any changes.  But please if you leave it too late to get in touch the order may have already been made and I cannot except any changes...

Can I return / exchange or receive a refund?

​

 All 'Custom Orders' where a product has been personalised with debossing or colour a refund may not be possible.  Please send me an e-mail to explain and discuss why you are not happy...  Customers will be responsible for the costs of returning the item or items.  Any Import Duties will not be refunded.

Ordering as a gift for someone else?

​

If your order is a gift for someone else make sure you enter your e-mail address to receive the order summary.  Enter the recipient's name and address in the shipping information.  A paper receipt will not be included in the package.

Does my order come gift wrapped?

​

Flax & Hide is committed to minimal plastic packaging.  Your purchase will either be delivered in a brown cardboard box or padded envelope (non plastic).  Smaller items will come packaged in coloured tissue paper fastened with a F&H logo sticker and thank you for your support card and keep in touch details. Larger items come in a re-useable blue or grey linen drawstring bag with a leather F&H tag and hand stamped Flax & Hide label.  If a linen bag is supplied this is stated on the 'Product Page' description.  So essentially all purchases come beautifully wrapped...

Can I have my own Branded Logo?

 

The simple answer is yes... If you have your own brand logo and suitable artwork it can be made into a brass debossing stamp. There will be an additional charge for the cost of the stamp.
